Call volume

Response times

  • Our response times for Chief Officers are good. Dispatch does not track engine in-route and on-scene times; however, I can tell out-the-door times during daytime hours are taking a little longer. This is true of most volunteer departments across the state. We do better than most I would say because of our number of members and their dedication but there is a need for improvement.
  • Staffing 2 Firefighter/EMTs would ensure daytime EMS response and greatly reduce fire call response times. Instead of waiting for 4 members to roll an engine, we would only be waiting for 2.
  • This would roughly cut our response time in half. That equates to less loss of property and life and safer working conditions for responders.

Firefighter/EMT Burnout

  • We have 11 members that have answered over 100 calls.
  • We have 4 that have answered over 150 calls.
  • We have 3 members that have answered over 200 calls.
  • We are averaging roughly 10,000 hours per year of service, training, special events, and project work from our members. That is 27.5 hrs. per day 7 days per week our members volunteer. This does not include my paid time here. We are at the point where we need to hire help to take the workload off the volunteers.
